Harry James Williams. (B.1999) Worcestershire based multimedia painter, exploring current ideas of expanded painting.
“I have always enjoyed painting and been curious to explore its language and form. An early inspiration who informed the development of my work was Katerina Grosse. She opened up the notion and possibilities of breaking away from the two-dimensional planes of my previous art works which prompted me to recreate photos I had taken or landscapes I had dreamed of; pushing and challenging boundaries of composition and application in moving towards systems and strategies of active, expressive making processes. I am fascinated about materials, relationships, interactions and architectural surfaces. The progression of my work has seen it shift into a methodology which employs gestural, impulsive actions which utilise a combination of materials to explore the three-dimensional space a painting can occupy. The context of my work engages with the field of expanded painting, encompassing DIY methods to bring together traditional painting materials with basic building materials; working in an expanded way to manipulate, push, abstract and challenge form.”
