Specialising in the short story form, I write about people with hardy hearts and complicated heads.
‘The Sea Witch and the Fisherman’s Wife’ is a feminist tale, written inside the Gothic genre. Set in a forgotten seaside town in Victorian England, the transgressive woman within my fiction is protected. Indeed, the Monsteress is celebrated alongside her equals; the Madwoman and the Whore.
The vagina and its chasm of the dreadful unknown is freed from patriarchal abuse and finds power in sexual pleasure. The man and the symbolic phallus is punished and removed; through honouring and worshipping woman’s body inside the safety of a queer love story.
