Dairu Han is a contemporary jewellery designer and object maker. Her work starts from her personal experience and also takes inspiration from history, cultures and plants. She likes to use jewellery to tell narrative stories. Memento mori and Victorian history influences her work. She is also inspired by patterns and colours abstracted from plants. Dairu uses metals and beads as the primary materials in her collection. Using the shape of figs combined with photography is her way of preserving the memories of her beloved one. In her current work, black is a significant colour element. Through which the audience can understand the theme of Mourning. Dairu has recently had a bereavement so the work is poignant and personal but can apply in context to her audiences experience of grief also. She believes that jewellery is a bridge to build connections with our beloved. Carrying our loved object or photography on the body helps people embrace inner emotions and memories of lost loved ones.
