I am a Fashion Design with Placement Year BA (Hons) 2021 Graduate. I completed my placement with House of Holland as a Design Intern – However when the brand began to go into administration, I became the sole member of the design team, working directly with the founder Henry Holland. I also have general experience as a Studio Intern with luxury brand Brøgger where the main focus was pattern cutting.
My inspiration came from the most notable subcultures of the recent past and the way they could maintain such a grasp on style to still be iconic to this day – as well as how it is in juxtaposition with the current fleeting fast pace of micro-trends and microscopic subcultures.
My concept follows the journey of a young girl experiencing her mother’s life through her diaries and fantasising about them through rose-tinted glasses. Her mother was born to parents living through the skinhead era who slowly transitioned to suede-head and smoothies as their daughter grew up with them. The diaries show the girl’s mother experiencing monumental events such as the Miss World Protest, the 1974 Recession & the Miner’s Strike, that are not too dissimilar in message to current day events.
