Carolina Andrade is an upcoming designer whose work explores Western cultures’ ideologies on current topics. Her pieces criticize social structures, hierarchies, and taboos by encouraging the viewer to reflect on pre-imposed ideals that one might have and affect one’s behavior and way of thinking. Carolina’s latest collection ‘ONE, THE OTHER, NEITHER, OR BOTH’ aims to reflect on what is associated with the two genders of Western culture and expand the ideas of what means to be/identify as a ‘man’, a ‘woman’, neither or both.
To achieve this, the designer incorporates both full-body pieces and a range of traditional jewellery with a sculptural, ‘static motion’ feel made from casted sterling silver and other unconventional materials to reach the desired visuals.
Finally, the collection allows the spectator to interact personally with the gender spectrum enabling a possibility for self-reflection.
