MARVILLA SAGRADA [Sacred Wonder]
In 2019 I moved to Barcelona, Spain to study textile design at Escola Massana. This was a very important time for my art practice and since my return to the UK the city of Barcelona has become a source of inspiration.
Inspired by Basílica de la Sagrada Família, my final major project is a further exploration of Gaudí’s famous architecture. MARVILLA SAGRADA aims to bring a sense of intrigue and wonder within home and living spaces, to recreate the experience of visiting the Basílica.
Through soft furnishings, the collection brings together unique shapes and markings drawn from details of the Basilica’s facades and interior. Five sub-collections, PASSION, GLORY, NATIVITY, FAÇADE and BASILCA, complete the MARVILLA SAGRADA collection. Important themes within my textile designs include colour, texture and pattern and each collection has referred to authentic colours and markings from all corners of the architectural design. Sculptural details as well as references to religion and nature as depicted in Gaudí’s design feature subtly within the textile compositions.
The textiles are intended to suit a range of interior styles, and I have deliberately not selected any one style as to reflect the varying design elements that other architects have influenced in the construction of Sagrada Família.
