Xiao Hang’s favourite type of jewellery is narrative jewellery. She has always been interested in telling stories and is good at it. In this collection of works, she has demonstrated her mastery of narrative art.
In this collection, Xiao both retells the old story to the viewer by transforming the jewellery in the portraits into touchable jewellery, and incorporates the designer’s understanding of the jewellery and the stories behind it into a new age, a collision of the past and the present, as well as a new interpretation of the jewellery recorded in the portraits 600 years ago.
Xiao dances away from the traditional techniques and forms limited by the present era, observing and learning the jewellery of the past. The new finished products derived from such bold integration give people an unprecedented appeal, which is based on contemporary creation, but also a kind of jewellery with a strong sense of history.
