I am attracted by the texture of woolen objects. It is soft, with gentle colors and furry surface texture, giving people a warm feeling, which is very different from the texture displayed by traditional jewelry. Therefore, I want to link wool with traditional jewellery, and use wool to ‘imitate’ or ‘replacement’ the materials in traditional jewellery to achieve an interesting ‘contrast’ effect.
My project works mainly in two forms, one is an imitation of traditional jewelry materials and structures of wool, one is to replace part of the materials used in traditional jewelry with wool. By ‘imitation’ and ‘replacement’to reach ‘new look and feel’ and ‘contrast’ effect. I want to change people’s ‘traditional perception’ of a thing through changes in materials.
I regard any jewellery as a sculpture that can cooperate with the body. In the process of making this set of jewelry, I ‘stacked’ the wool bit by bit by felting. This gradual process of change also makes me feel more like making sculptures.
