I am a final year BA Architecture student at Birmingham City University with an interest in residential architecture, urban design and architectural history. For my final project, Ritual Revival, I uncovered a historic procession in Wednesbury known as ‘walking the fair’, which marked the beginning of a number of local festivities in the town. I designed a building which facilitates the revival of such an event, containing workshops and other spaces to create the different elements needed to carry out the procession in the current day. The idea was greatly inspired by previous unofficial attempts to revive the procession, the most notable of which was led by “a man on a donkey dressed in ribbons”.
