Hi everyone! I’m Ooi Yaosheng also known as Nelson Ooi, who as a practitioner of interior design and architecture is always eager to learn, explore and experiment with new ideas related to interior spaces.
My final project in year 3, Semester 6 was called “Conserving Peranakan Cuisine – Dining with Senses’.
The proposal is to curate the whole experience of multi-sensory design with the aim of preserving and promoting the Peranakan culture with the food and lifestyle being the main of attractions.
The project comprised a dining space which serves local food prepared according to the rituals, ingredients, colors, utensil, and traditional methods all aimed at communicating elements of the ‘Peranakan’ culture.
The journey is intended to be evocative – entering and going through the senses space in ‘Peranakan’ forging the link. The site comprised a 100 years old shop in Melaka, One of the states in peninsular Malaysia.
