Yulu Zhou is a contemporary jeweller whose goal is to create jewellery from the observations of the real world and communicate with the audience through the fragments and silhouettes of life, evoking resonance and reflection. Therefore, she named her brand Déjà vu, which is a French word that means to feel that what you are experiencing has happened before.
The new project discusses a psychological issue known as intimacy avoidance, and as a member of this community, she is acutely aware of her ambivalence about intimacy, both longing and fear. Accordingly, she creates a functional jewellery collection “Come a little closer to me” to enhance the tactile experience while reducing social distancing, thereby encouraging stress-free interaction and people’s desire for closeness and intimacy. Exploring the relationship between the wearer, the physical body, and the object by pushing the boundaries of jewellery as an ornament.
