Hi, I’m Promina, an BA Architecture graduate and this is a slice of my final year project.
THE GREEN KITCHEN
A Care-Full Community
Bordesley Green suffers from many social and economic injustices which include poor health, led by food consumption and healthy food deprivation. Recently there has been experiences of a drastic increase in food prices for fruits and vegetables which has put low income households into difficult positions forcing them to have limited healthy food accessibility. Poor diets are one of the leading causes for metabolic health problems such as type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases as well as a range of cancer and liver diseases. Bordesley green experiences a high volume of health conditions in terms of high cholesterol levels, blood sugar levels, diabetes and obesity. Which affects people’s metabolism and health in the long term which can lead to severe health affliction.
The Green Kitchen is designed to tackle these 2 issues through providing 3 key elements which includes the 1st element being the source of the food which is achieved by urban farming through hydroponics, the second element is the tools and skills to cook healthy food and 3rd element is the procedure of cooking and serving.
